Job Description:

  • Provide quality engineering support to research and flight hardware projects to define efficient and effective approaches to assure appropriate Safety and Mission Assurance (S&MA) requirements are being incorporated and implemented into projects, such as Power Propulsion Element (PPE) that are developing and building ion thrusters for deep space missions and power systems for the Lunar Gateway. 
  •  Assist with the development of tailored quality assurance requirements for project test and flight hardware.
  • Review and assessment of the application of program, project, and Agency S&MA requirements for test and flight hardware
  •  Perform supplier surveillance activity to assure that Project requirements are being met
  •  Provide expertise in AS9100 quality management system auditing, audit preparation, and procurement quality assurance
  • Develop QA noncompliance mitigation strategies, and establish a tracking mechanism within Project risks or design review actions
  • Provide support in the areas of reviewing inspection plans for acceptability and performing inspections when necessary. Provide supplier quality inspections.
  • Assist with the processing of Corrective/Preventative Audit Reports which include root cause identification and verification of problem closure.

Required Skills:

  • BS Engineering
  • 5+ Years of Experience
  • Must be a US citizen
  • Must be able to pass a national agency check
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment and periodic random drug and alcohol screenings.
  • A general understanding of NASA Safety and Mission Assurance requirements is needed.  Previous NASA S&MA experience is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in the areas of quality assurance engineering, supplier quality assurance, electrical and electronic component manufacturing, quality systems, and quality auditing.
  • Demonstrated technical writing and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated H/W, electro-mechanical aptitude.
  • Candidate must be proficient with the use of Microsoft Office Suite, in particular Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel, for presentations, reports, and other uses.
  • Previous experience at NASA or other Federal Agencies is preferred.
  • 10% Travel is anticipated.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, IPC 610 & 620 standards and inspecting components to these standards

  • Ability to work well with cross-functional teams, design engineers, line management, and project management.
  • Position requires a competent communicator (verbal and written) with ability to work harmoniously and effective with co-workers, Bastion Management and all levels of customer personnel.
  • Required to be regular in attendance (per agreed to work hours schedule), consistently punctual and be relied upon to successfully complete all assignments.
